On Friday I had a photo shoot done of my new jewellery and scarf range. Above is a sneak preview, I’m excitedly waiting for the rest of them! For the shoot I made yarn laterns which you can see in the background. I really enjoyed making these, it reminds me of all the crafty little projects I used to do when I was younger that I never seem to have time for any more. If you like getting messy then you will enjoy making these. All you need is
Cotton Yarn or String
Half a bottle of craft Glue
1/2 cup of Cornflour
1/4 of warm water
And some where to hang them to dry for 48 hours.
First blow up one of the balloons, cover it in Vaseline and suspend the balloon. Making sure you put lots of news paper or bin liners over the floor as it get messy. Mix together the Cornflour, glue and water. Begin to dip strands of yarn in to the mixture and then wrap around the balloon.
Sorry for the poor photography, my hands were very messy at this point! Continue to wrap around yarn until you you are happy with how it looks. Then make some more!
Once they have fully dried and feel really solid pop the balloons.
I used coloured yarn and found that the cornflour left white splodges all over the yarn. So if I was to do it again I would get some spray paints in the colour I wanted and spray them after they were fully dry. As I had a deadline to get these done I did not have time to spray paint them so I simply wound yarn around again to bring the colour back.
